The New (Incomplete) House

I thought you might like to see the latest pictures of the house. It's coming along, but we are still 6 or 8 weeks from the finish line. Still it's beginning to look like a home.

They are putting on the rock face, the rock will go up to the bottom of the windows on the front of the house. The east side and back have most of the smart siding on.. They still have at least 1/2 or 2/3 of the house to put the smart siding on...

Inside they have textured the walls and have primed them.. They will start painting as soon as our painter is out of the hospital.. Poor guy, takes these jobs very seriously. He does a great job, but is going to have to learn how to slow down his insides without slowing down the outside.. A lesson a lot of us need to learn I suppose. I think he gets out in the morning..

We have chosen the colors for the walls inside, but we still have to decide on what color to paint the exterior.. I wouldn't make a decision on color for the outside until I saw what the rock was going to look like.. duh.. Now I know why you can drive around town and see some houses that make you wonder who would choose those colors to go together on a house. . It's obvious to me that they choose them before the actually saw the rock... or the paint.. which ever they put on first.. You can't tell from a booklet what anything is really going to look like!

We found a rock that we wanted to put on the fireplace.. and though we are in the correct region for the company to ship the rock here.. our local businesses all get their stone from some distributor in the north east, so the rock we wanted isn't shipped here.. Well, we are not easily dissuaded and started making some phone calls.. It may be we can have someplace in Kansas order it.. we are only about 6 miles from the border, and it's about the same to Oklahoma, or a bit farther from down to Arkansas.. So, if the rock is something we feel like we can afford, we'll have someone order it and we'll drive to wherever that is and pick it up..

Decisions, decisions.. so many many decisions.. and once you make them you still might not be done.. we have chosen several things only to find they were discontinued or not available, or unaffordable! So the process goes on... and on.. and on..

Little by little it is getting finished, and I'm hoping to actually get to move in there one day before winter sets in! Time will tell.. I've attached some pictures that were taken today... You can see the rock going up on the house, and the poor guy that lays it working in the sun (no trees, no shade), also one from the other end of the house, one that shows our PODs where everything we still own lives, and one of the brick paver driveway that I had to talk like a dutch uncle to save.. It will be a beautiful home.. but you can also see there are no trees, and no shrubs, no grass, nothing green around there..

Hope all is going well with you..
Judie
