Lunch Pal

I had a super fun day today.... First of all, as I'm sure I've told you before, I'm a lunch pal for a third grade girl, Brittany, and today the school had a luncheon for all the third grade and the lunch pals. It was in our Methodist Church Activity Center and was really neat.

There were 19 round tables with 8 at each table all with orange tablecloths. Our food was all cold (wasn't supposed to be) but it was all prepared at the school and brought to the church. We had mashed potatoes (no gravy or anything), fried chicken, half ears of corn, fruit salad, green beans and a roll. Each child made a place mat for themselves and also one for their lunch pal, if they had one. Not every child in the third grade has a lunch pal but just the kids that need some special attention - the school makes that decision.

They had a program up on the stage that some of the kids were involved in - some from each of the 6 third grade classes. Our school tries to keep each class between 15-20 kids and Brittany's class has 19. I'm attaching the only two pictures I was able to get before my camera batteries went dead. I forgot to check the camera before I left this morning and was so disgusted with myself. The one picture is of Brittany and the other the whole class with their teacher sitting down in the middle. The kids made their own costumes, if they wanted one (Brittany didn't) but she did have a head dress and one of the teachers painted their faces as if they were the Indians from the time of our first Thanksgiving.

Our school does so many good things for the kids and it was such a fun part of my day. After lunch all the kids went outside to play as each teacher had a different game planned. It was cold and windy but a gorgeous day otherwise but all Brittany wanted to do was stay with me so I could hug her close to me. I finally told her I was going to leave so she went and played with the kids. The rest of the lunch pals left as soon as lunch was over but Brittany begged me to stay so I did - she is 9 years old and a very sweet child.
