Michael Jr. Update

January 11, 2007

Good news concerning Michael Jr. He was in surgery for about an hour and a half today. Doctors were considering cutting out a portion of his skull and removing the abscess, but decided against that. Instead they drilled a small hole in his skull and put a drain in his head. It is in the back of his head and secured so the abscess will slowly drain. He will be in the hospital 3-5 days, in the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit).

Tomorrow doctors will do another surgery and put in a PIC line. PIC lines are deeper, sturdier IV lines, and are inserted (in Michael's case) on the inside of his upper arm. A stitch or two will hold it in place. He is expected to recover nicely. Right now he is sleeping peacefully, thanks to the morphine. sleep baby sleep. I think the 'danger' is over and thankfully the outcome looks good. I was expecting the worse and refusing to think about that. Honestly, I don't know how I would handle burying another grand child in January!

Thank you for all your prayers and words of encouragement! It means so much to me to be able to share with my family and friends, especially when things are as important as this was. Friday I will be spending most of my day at the hospital with Michael Jr. Saturday his mama has work 2-10 so I will be heading down to stay with him for the day and over night. Nancy will not be off work till 10, won't be back home till 10:30-11:00 and quite truthfully, I won't be in the mood to be driving at that time of night. So there may not be any more updates until Sunday. The good news is, things look good right now.
